Description

Mystery. Manipulation. Murder. Cults are associated with all of these. But what really goes on inside a cult? More specifically, what goes on inside the minds of people who join cults and leaders who start them? Every Tuesday, Greg and Vanessa (co-hosts of the podcast Serial Killers) explore the history and psychology behind the most notorious cults. Cults is part of the Parcast Network and is a Cutler Media production.

Are all episodes so poorly researched? This is the 4th or 5th ep I've listened so far, if all are so misguided damn...

I’ve enjoyed these podcasts overall. I hadn’t heard of the majority of these cults. I’m unsubscribing because either their using popular media and not academic sources for their research or they don’t know how to interpret what they’re reading . They often imply that the symptoms of severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, are the cause of the behaviours that led them to murder, manipulate and abuse others. To defile children, the elderly and animals. The links they make are tenuous at best however, that isn’t my main concern. They are perpetuating the stigma these people experience on a daily basis. I have worked and lived with people who suffer from these illnesses and others. What they are suggesting is simply not the reality of these disorders. I’ve really enjoyed these podcasts and I want to keep listening. I was going to unsubscribe a little while ago but held on. I just can’t anymore. I’m not saying there aren’t clearly cases where mental illness is potentially driving some of these people’s abnormal behaviours. They’re just applying the wrong disorders to the wrong behaviours. Side note - I actually like the little disclaimer skit where she thanks him for letting people know that she hasn’t any formal training in what she’s talking about. I appreciate the hard work they both do. Might rejoin the series another time.

you can really tell that they are stretching the actual information this podcast out. it must have been painful trying to make this 40+minutes. I feel like they are running out of cults to cover.

"parcast podcasts" is probably the dumbest name for a business I've ever seen....

This Guy Bhaktipad has written a version of Gita which is quite popular in India, I've read it but after listening to the full story I have to say this guy can't lecture me on spirituality. This Father fucker is so low that I literally want to kill him by stoning.

Stop saying 'they' when you mean HE. Singular verb, singular subject.

Such a disappointment. Fascinating material delivered by 2 automatons. This male/female pairing is so awkward and phoney sounding. What's with the "Thanks Greg" whenever "Vanessa" shares her *research. ". PLEASE get new hosts (preferably one) who sounds like a real person. And stop talking down to your audience!

I'm not comparing cults I'm just making a general statement. based on misleading people into believing in something that is non existant and sucks their lifeblood for the purpose of perpetuation. btw the mormons are the richest cult of all and spend billions building gold cathedrals. your nonexistent leader's son would cringe at what the mormons have built. people are starving and dying from sickness while you worship in your golden castles and throw peanuts to them. fuck the mormons and their laughable book and secret underwear. you're in a freaking cult but nothing anyone says will make you believe that.

secret organization does not equal cult. I didn't hear anything that would make me consider this a cult

You don’t know how many times I had to pause and take a break from this second episode. I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about his forms and acts of abuse
