Description

Debra Newell is a successful interior designer. She meets John Meehan, a handsome man who seems to check all the boxes: attentive, available, just back from a year in Iraq with Doctors Without Borders. But her family doesn’t like John, and they get entangled in an increasingly complex web of love, deception, forgiveness, denial, and ultimately, survival. Reported and hosted by Christopher Goffard from the L.A. Times.

I just can't handle these commercials. it really sounded good - when it was actually on.

Almost all comments here show there is a lack of understanding of how domestic violence works.

I still can't wrap my head around how fucking STUPID these women are. This is so infuriating! is this what religion does to people? makes them stupid beyond reason? ugh. ugh. triple ugh. and the fucking giggling, psychotic.

She was a victim until the police reports came out. After that, she was a volunteer.

wow victim blaming and women hating is alive and real in these comments. I for one am amazed and overjoyed to hear a story about a woman defending herself and coming out on top. anyone who walks away feeling more disdain for the women in this story than the monster that ruined their lives is honestly a trash human.

I think Debra is still enabling/supporting/in denial of John. During the podcast she speaks about him in the present tense and giggles, almost talks of him reverently. She never once sounds upset, disgusted or even angry at herself, or him. She's not a victim, she was a willing participant demonstrating active credulity.

I cannot believe this fucking family. They don't even get mad when you murder one of them. You killed my daughter? Oh that's fine, dear, you know I love you

This is infuriating to a listen to. She is dumb. Plain and simple. We've all encountered full of s**t people in life. By 50 years old you should be well-versed in spotting a man's obvious bs from a mile away. Even her kids are screaming red flags everywhere. This is what happens when you're desperate to have a man in your bed and lack self-esteem.

Im sure Debra got her smarts from her mother. Geez! How can you love everyone after they murder your child and testify to help him not be prosecuted. Crazy. Straight nuts.

This story is infuriating...she LET HIM COME BACK. Its not "baffling" as the narrator exclaims, it's just plain old gullible and moronic. The women who fell for this shit had multiple red flags, they decided to ignore logic and better judgement. "Dirty John" is a straight up asshole, but the women who fell for his horseshit are unbelievable...pills, lies, police reports, no family contact, no home address he can prove, not a vehicle, friend or job in sight...ugh.
