Joel and Matt are best friends who love craft beer and talking about money! Joel has spent the past decade working in the money media space while Matt has taken the entrepreneurial route and started a small photography business. They both have growing families and a small portfolio of investment properties in Atlanta. They both love finding interesting ways to cut costs and save for the future – and, of course, they enjoy drinking delicious beer along the way. While finding creative ways to save money is practically their pastime, Joel and Matt still strive to live a rich life in the areas that matter.

They're no Ira Glass, Mr. Money Mustache, or Tim Ferriss; but that’s why Pour Not Poor was started – to tell money stories that matter with a touch of self-experimentation! Joel and Matt believe that when you decide to handle the money you have in a purposeful, thoughtful way that works for your lifestyle, you can really start living a rich life.

All About That Peace Out Money #041
Imagine that you have a well paying job but otherwise it sucks and you wish you could leave. And now imagine that an amazing opportunity comes along for you to start your dream business- that thing you’ve always wanted to do, but the problem is that you know you won’t be able to pay yourself for a solid year. What you need is peace out money to keep you afloat! Or maybe some family or health issues have come up and you want to be able to spend time with family, or maybe you just want to take some time off and road trip it for 6 months. Either way, the answer is peace out money! We’re defining this as having enough money on hand to leave situations or jobs where you could technically stay, but you’re choosing not to because you’d rather do something else. You have that peace out money to bridge you to the next job or opportunity that you really want to pursue. Listen to the full episode to hear the additional benefits of peace out money, how it's different than reaching financial independence, and then finally the steps you can take to make sure you have your own peace out money set and ready for when you need it.And during this episode we enjoyed a 2014 Oud Bruin by yEast Atlanta Brewers which you can find and learn all about on Untappd. A big thanks to our friend John for brewing, aging, and donating this beer! Love the show and would highly recommend it, especially because you don't have to be a financial guru to understand the topics they cover. I would however, respectfully disagree with the premise of this episode. It sounds like one of their biggest worries with hiring a financial advisor is the hidden costs and the worry that the advisor would not have the best interest of the client. In that case, I would point you to a "Smartvestor Pro". These are Dave Ramsey approved advisors that have a heart for teaching and helping everyday people with their finances. They won't nickel and dime you and will do what is in your best interest best on your financial goals. My second thought is this, it takes a LOT of research to feel comfortable making investment decisions, at least, if you're doing it right. And even then it sometimes doesn't work out. If you wanted to build a house, wouldn't you hire a professional contractor? If you wanted a secure financial future and retirement, shouldn't you hire a financial professional who knows what they are doing? If you start getting into the research and the lingo of the markets and financial vehicles that you can invest in, it won't take long for most people to quickly get overwhelmed if you don't have a passion for it. The Pour not Poor guys have a passion for this stuff so it will be easier for them to want to do the research on "low cost mutual funds" and to make sure their portfolio is diversified. Just a few thoughts to those who might only be hearing these guys speak on the subject.

I have been listening since the start, enjoy the conversation about beer and finance, both things I enjoy. Even as a Canadian, the finance conversation is still practical.
