I believe I once read that the reason dwarves became associated with what we now call dwarfism has to do with a Norse tradition of taking children born with the condition to natural caves to be taken by dwarves. The implication was that the dwarves would take the child and assimilate it within dwarves culture. so, these children were "children of the dwarves" or "dwarf children". I think it was just eventually assumed that every little person would become a cultural dwarf, so the "child of" part eventually fell away. From that point forward, the middle man was cut out, and the children were simply dwarves. Also, these children were being murdered. It gets very cold in Norway, and there were many wolves. Have a great day!

I have a parasite. I couldn't tell you the proper name of it tho. The kind I have lives in pidgeon, bat, or chicken poop... yes, POOP! you get it when the dirt and poop are disturbed and spores are released and you inhale them. I have Histoplasmosis. usually it's in your lungs and will present as a common cold. but because I am ever so lucky I have what is called Ocular Histoplasmosis syndrome. It causes veins in the back of my eye to grow and bleed out in my eye. ive lost some vision but I manage it with needle injections INTO my eyeball!

You know, every so often either Kat or Jethro will say something during their story along the lines of, this is really strange, weird, or odd. .. And I can't help but wonder what else would be on this podcast titled The Box of Oddities? That's what I'm here for, after all. So, please, give me tales of this revolting, horrifying, bizarre, touching, and beautiful world we live in. Because you love it, I love it, and we can.

you're comment about people just telling it like it is reminded me of one of my favorite quotes kristen bell said her therapist told her "honesty without tact is just cruelty"

I'm not squeamish, but I was eating while listening to this episode and was mid-swallow when Kat said, "These were the mummified corpses of young girls." Extreme choking

I don't see why people have a problem with 'mental retardation' or 'mentally retarded'. I do see a problem with calling someone with mental retardation a 'retard'. That's just cruel. But, retardation is an actual technical term which means a slowing of development of anything you're referring to. Sorry, my two cents on my soapbox. LOL

When I was a kid I had an old WWE wrestling toy that had the wrestler the undertaker with it, & it said some kind of speech of his that ended with "I've come from the dark side to take your soul" but it would only work if you put the wrestler on the base because it had metal things that had to connect to make it talk, late at night no matter how far away the wrestler was from the base it would say "I've come from the dark side to take your soul" even though it was supposed to have an entire speech before it, it skipped over all the rest of it & only said that part, my mom & my sister hated it but my dad & I loved it lol

A grilled cheese generally weighs about 3 ounces, so there are 704,000 ounces in 22 tons, so that would make about 234666.666667 grilled cheese! Yes I just spent 5 minutes doing the math lol
