Description

After suffering multiple miscarriages, she begins to see her children less as a blessing and more of a burden. Mary Ann Cotton’s severe struggles with PTSD and postpartum depression caused her to disconnect from her own thoughts and commit unthinkable crimes around England during the 1850s and 60s. Many of the people closest to her did not survive the wrath of her anger.

Pretty well covered, however the armchair Mental Health diagnoses of Mary Ann Cotton based upon her behaviour is unhelpful and could even be downright harmful. So many mental health problems in the DSM-5 have so many similar attributed that labelling serial killers with certain things can warp the way people see them. Yes, she did horrible things, yes she was traumatized but there's no record of her day-to-day non-murderous behaviours to give any sign of PTSD, and all irresponsibly labelling killers does is add to the stigma.
