Description

West Valley City police made one final push before declaring the Susan Powell case cold in 2013, interrogating Josh Powell's uncle Maurice Leach in Oregon. Meanwhile, Susan's family fought for change, both in the courts and at the Washington statehouse. Josh's mom, Terri Powell, went to court in Utah to argue for her share of the life insurance money. Twice-convicted sex offender Steve Powell died alone from heart failure.

For the past three years, investigative reporter Dave Cawley has been studying thousands of police documents, journals, videos and diary entries. He has tracked down new sources, followed new leads and traced Josh Powell's trail from West Valley City, Utah, through Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and on to Washington State, where Powell killed himself and his two sons. Cold is the most complete retelling of the Susan Powell story ever. Join Dave Cawley in his search for truth. Share your thoughts: #ColdPodcast #FindSusan Twitter Instagram Facebook

Sorry, law enforcement, you did BOTCH THE CASE. Please, stop it already. Every g-damned case has an argument of "reasonable doubt". It's up to YOU to prove the case. Arresting Josh was a no-brainer and could have led to a confession and the saving of the children. Enough. Like all of us, you're fallible and in this case you struck out on a fastball down the middle. Own up to it. Others can share in the "blame" but it's more about accountability. I know it was hard. I know it wasn't a slam-dunk case at that point but holy crap, arrest the lying, manipulative pos. They arrest people for peeing in the street or smoking a doob in the park but you couldn't arrest Josh? Please.

David Berriman Every time a jury is convened it is pounded into their heads that they will be presented evidence on both sides and that there's a high bar to pass...beyond a reasonable doubt.....to convict. They don't come into the court and hear from the judge, "Well, good news. The cops did such an amazing job that there is no place for any possible reasonable doubt. This case was sowed up so all you have to do is find the accused GUILTY."

These scenarios are part nature and part nurture...These Powell men...are disconnected emotionally...not wired correctly...people are objects and assets or liabilities to these psychos...YOU CAN'T FIX THAT...you can possible manage it but only with Extreme measures...it's fitting that he used fire as his agent of exit because he is surly burning in hell right now....from what I heard Susan was a warm hearted woman with a high level of emotional connectivity to people...therefore it does somewhat blow my mind that she was married to such a soulless shark eyed evil person

Kevin Murray She was young and naive and fell under his manipulation....his "spell". Too bad. She deserved so much better and so did her kids.

Steve Powell was delusional, disturbed and twisted as were his sons. The apples didn't fall far from the tree. With Susan out of the picture, Charlie and Braden would ultimately be raised and indoctrinated by the psycho Powell patriarchy. Even if they'd lived, those little boys never had a chance.

Amy Ulrich Remember Susan's parents had custody when they were murdered. He was finally being kept away with only state supervised visits. He would have eventually been in prison. They had a chance.

If Steven knew where Suzanne was he'd do something crazy obsessive like dig her up. Josh knew his father was a liability and was smart enough not to reveal her location.

Truly phenomenal podcast. This entire series has been so well researched, well edited, and well told. This is a difficult story to tell but it's done with so much respect for the innocent parties involved. Very, very well done!
