Guilty of drug abuse when the only evidence was obtained via civil rights violation amidst the brutality of a monster cop...

The thing is that regardless of what someone may or may not have done, regardless of where they live or the color of their skin no one deserves to be beaten my those the are sworn to protect. The justice system has a responsibility to treat citizens with a calm hand. It shouldn't be a question of if the person had been in trouble before or looks shady and even if they should commit a crime it is for the court to decide a punishment not the cops or so called street justice.

Serial is the best. Got hooked on season 1, not so much on season 2, but am loving season 3. It's great to shine a light on the injustice going on. I'm still amazed that this goes on. How in the world does Cleveland get away with it. The entire system is blind to what's happening on the streets. Is there not a single honest cop/judge/prosecutor in the city? I'll bet Trump does well in Cleveland. SMH

It comes down to education. The way some of these men and women comprehend simple situations is remarkable and sad.

Cosmocide "People took such awful chances with chemicals and their bodies because they wanted the quality of their lives to improve. They lived in ugly placed where there were only ugly things to do. They didn't own doodley-squat, so they couldn't improve their surroindings. So they did their best to make their insides beutiful instead" - Kurt Vonnegut

Jessie is responsible for his terrible choices. Coming to see his son high, going to court high, you can't blame that on institutional racism (which I don't deny exists), that is a fault of character. Wanna get high? Suffer the consequences that has on character. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. You can feel the cast cringe as they realize what a piece of shit they picked to serve as their everyman (Jessie) It's a shame too, I was totally rooting for him until this episode

Joe Young Okay, okay...you can talk about weed and the benefits of it and such, but don't also throw shade at people who drink. Life is hard. People want to unwind. It's not a big deal if you get drunk every so often.

Cosmocide This is the first time I've ever been impressed with comment discourse! I commend you for opening your mind to try to understand life experiences so far removed from your own. You give me hope.

Y'all are missing the whole point. The question is would young men like Jesse be acting the way that they do if they didn't live in a racist country with a broken system? Might he have turned out differently, or lead a 'better' life if he weren't exposed to all the institutional trauma?

Megan Amort To achieve a different outcome, you have to try a different approach. Being a thug shit antagonist doesn't help anyone's case.

I can't believe a tenth of the state has a suspended license... Jesse owes 10k in fees. He will never be able to get out of this dept, hace a valid licence. I mean its not about him really, its the bigger picture. How these systems don't really deter crime at all. Its depressing reading these comments, people fixated on of Jessie is good person, if this is something hes done to himself. I mean thats not really what they are showing us is it?

1234567 I live in Ohio, have grown up here, and I've lived in various different locations. I grew up in Bellevue, which had eight thousand people, then I move to Cleveland, and now I live in Findlay which has about 40,000 people. Everywhere I have lived, you cannot reasonably work in Ohio without having a driver's license. we don't have very good public transportation systems. They're not exist in in rural areas, and even in the urban areas they aren't that great depending on where you live and what you're doing. So when the court suspend someone's license for failure to pay a fine or a fee, they're just hurting themselves. If someone doesn't have a license, it makes it harder for them to work. If they aren't working there and pulling in money. If they're pulling in money they can't pay off the fine or fee to begin with. It's just a vicious cycle
