you say that Dem Soc won the argument. it would seem then not that they should stop calling themselves Dem Soc but that the Democrats should relinquish their label. why should Bernie have to defend and explain his choice of label if he won the debate?

Alex Mercedes oh ok I see what you mean. personal opinion is that the label shouldn't matter, especially because at this point the GOP flat out says that no matter who is on the dem ballot or what they stand for, they'll be a socialist. its kinda their MO to call dems that at this point going back decades. it would be different if dem candidates were the ones pointing fingers and calling each other socialist, but that would be pretty self destructive from the viewpoint of the party as a whole

Tommy Fafalios yeah, I got that. the discussion about the difficult position Bernie is in, having brought forward a democratic socialist agenda that has been accepted by Democrats, how does he justify continuing to use a different label.... that's the conversation I'm referring to.

Okay, you guys, hang on a minute. I do not hate Biden in any way. I think he's generally a pretty good guy, even if he's not my first choice for president. I'm not a dumbo, though, for thinking that his promise to cure cancer was silly. You wanna know the difference between this campaign promise versus others? Here it is: Other campaign promises may fall through, but they are promises based on policies that could actually happen overnight. The actual likelihood of that happening is irrelevant; the fact is, we could, conceivably, enact health care for all. That promise isn't reliant upon research that doesn't yet actually exist. He should have promised to increase funding into the search for the cure for cancer. But to promise to cure cancer is simply ludicrous. You cannot swear that researchers will discover something. We may never find the cure. I hope we do, but hope is not reliable. And just so you know, I'd think that promise was weak no matter who said it. I'm not deranged. I'm realistic. Biden might as well have promised me a unicorn. Honestly, y'all owe me an apology for assuming that I have beef with Uncle Joe just because I think he said something lame. I love my husband dearly but that doesn't stop me from calling him out when he screws up -- which he does fairly often. You can like someone and still laugh when they fumble. tl;dr -- Biden's promise to cure cancer was silly, and if you disagree, then you're silly, too. But that's okay; I still love you.

I do get that the guys have personal sympathies for Biden. They said so repeatedly in the past and that is fine. But that level of apologism is just silly. And seems quite Trumpy to me too. "Biden derangement syndrome"? Really? There are a lot of candidates who don't say and do stupid, if not outright creepy or horrible things on a constant basis. Why defend him? I really don't get why he is frontrunner. If he ends up as the candidate, the Democrats (or rather the DNC) deserve their election loss even more so than they did with Clinton part 2, because they have proven (again) that they are utterly incapable of learning.
