Description

Nearly 10 years have elapsed since Susan Powell's disappearance. Her body has still not been found. The investigation remains a cold case. In recent years, Susan's friends and family have focused their effort on sharing the story as a cautionary tale. They hope showing the warning signs of domestic abuse can help others safely escape dangerous relationships. In this season finale for Cold, Dave shares his theory on what he believes happened to Susan.

For the past three years, investigative reporter Dave Cawley has been studying thousands of police documents, journals, videos and diary entries. He has tracked down new sources, followed new leads and traced Josh Powell's trail from West Valley City, Utah, through Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and on to Washington State, where Powell killed himself and his two sons. Cold is the most complete retelling of the Susan Powell story ever. Join Dave Cawley in his search for truth. Share your thoughts: #ColdPodcast #FindSusan Twitter Instagram Facebook

What an amazing season!!!!!! This case has really stuck w me since the “sword and scale” episode that covered it. I had no idea the depth of this story. I think you did a fantastic job of not only filing in huge gaps but also honoring Susan and the boys. May they Rest In Peace.

Amazing podcast!! I am in tears! I've been a victim more than once and have never been able to understand why i stayed in the relationships so long. I think to myself "what if this were me?" Thank god i survived and I hope i can take something away from this podcast. I wish guys i know would listen to this and hear this last episode and the message. I wish it would stop happening also. I barely know where to begin...Susan, Charlie and Braydon, may you rest in peace. To Susan's family I am so sorry for your loss, but know Susan's death was not in vain. Her story has given strength to those in difficult situations, and will continue to do so. To David, thank you for your thoroughness and compassion covering this tragedy, you covered this horrifying story with respect and reverence. This podcast should be used as a learning/teaching tool, it is a comprehensive account of abuse and its effects, as well as the warning signs.

I'm bummed that this is the final episode. Dave Cawley, I hope you'll do another podcast in the near (VERY NEAR!) future. The amount of time, & detail that went into this series is the reason that it turned out so good, & has had so many of us tuning in every Wed. You did a lot of traveling, reading through thousands of documents (legal docs, case files, journals, emails, etc), interviewed numerous people, etc, etc, etc. Many of those interviewed contributed a lot...like, Ellis, Jennifer, & Chuck. I imagine you spent many hours with them. I'm sure it was hard for them at times to share their experience. But, it was probably therapeutic, too. By sharing their stories on this Podcast, they helped the truth of Susan's story to be told, & they should ALL feel proud.... & Dave, you made it possible for them to be heard, & it allowed all of us to hear the truth- it gave Susan a voice. Your effort & dedication to Cold is very much appreciated. A BIG thank you to everyone who contributed by sharing their experiences, & those who've been working on Cold, behind the scenes. The amazing officers (in Utah & Oregon) who dedicated so much time to this case, deserve praise, & appreciation, & so do the DCFS agents who were doing their best to keep the boy's safe. I hope that the family & friends of Susan, Charlie, & Brayden, realize that by helping this tragic story to be heard could possibly help other victims of domestic abuse to look at their own life, think about getting help, & possibly even make a decision to leave. Susan's story is beyond sad. But, now that her true story has been told on this Cold Podcast, it could help a lot of people. It helped me find the courage to talk to my friend about her abusive relationship with her boyfriend, & to tell her about some of the resources that are available to her. Of course, I also told her about the Cold Podcast. I'm praying she'll be inspired to make a change, & do it, while she still can. THANK YOU again Dave, for your OUTSTANDING journalism, & thorough investigative work. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the podcast, in any way. Lastly, I'm happy to make the same pledge that Dave made... I vow to take action if I see signs of abuse in a family member, friend, (including men), etc, or a stranger. I vow to be the best mother that I can be, & to appreciate the time that I have with each of my 3 kids, & my husband. Every time I listened to Cold, it got me to think about my own life, & reminded me that I'm blessed to have a spouse who loves me, & shows it through his actions. We can all pay tribute to Susan & her boys, by simply treating our loved ones with the respect & kindness they deserve, expressing gratitude for the blessing in our lives, & by speaking up if there are signs of abuse- of any kind. Remember, Susan said that her friends & family saw many red flags before she did, & she wished they had said something to her about it, sooner. Speaking up could save a life, & prevent someone from having the same tragic & unnecessary ending to their story, as Susan. God bless.

PJ Simon Same here. I've listened to nearly every true crime podcast with a similar format, and this one is exceptionally well-done. It's up there with the best of the best.

this story of Susan is so good but very upsetting that they have not been able to locate her body after all these years. I have followed this story since i first about her going missing. this is also very sad about her boys. I love listening to this podcast. I hope it continues.
