this subject clearly will go back and forth with no definite sweeping answer for either side. like he's said in an earlier podcast it's a "moral law" which sounds like it puts a level of subjectivity on what you feel is morally acceptable in this case. Ben clearly sees this as murder. Whereas someone else does not. interesting discussion.

Emmitt Richards well it turns out, when you murder a baby that is in fact murder.

I wonder how people would feel if their mothers or fathers told them " you know what I wish I had aborted you"

RDepK Whether or not what you say about the symmetry of a baby to an adult being true is completely immaterial. That's my entire point. People will do what they want to do, whether or not a law is present. Law only acts as an incentive. Throughout history, people have done what they wanted to do if it was important enough to them. This is true for any illegal drug or activity throughout history: banning their use simply does not work. And this is why the Republican position is two faced: it claims to be the party of liberty, but doesn't go all the way. This is not an excuse for horrific action. It's just to point out that we have a lot of trouble accepting certain truths about human behavior, and then shallowly believe that a law restricting said behavior will have any fundamental impact. If law doesn't reflect reality, it's meaningless.

RDepK Furthermore, if a person kills a pregnant woman in the US, the criminal is charged with two murders. This clearly proves that an unborn baby is legally a distinct life.

I usually agree with you Ben, but I highly disagree with pure pro lifers. (I'm libertarian). It isn't our bodies that make us a human, for it is actually our conciousness. There fore the only time I think a doctor needs a peer review for an abortion is if brain activity is detected.

PK Bratney In a temporary vegetative state their brains cerebellum is on. they are not dead. The logic is sound. If its just a body with no brain it is not a person.

Desert Ants OK, but extend that logic to an adult or child in a temporary vegetative state (no brain activity, but otherwise alive). Whose consent is necessary to order a doctor to commit euthanasia on that person?

Ben is pretty terrible on abortion. I'm a huge fan of his but these last couple podcasts have been awful. His logic is not great on this issue.

Chris He is a parent. When you have a child of your own, when you have experienced the miracle of life growing, of birth, of your child...it's inconceivable that people can push abortion..murder...as a viable option. This is about the push to make abortion..murder..right and good. That is sick.

Akihito007 I'm not an abortion advocate I'm more on the pro life side but that can't be your logic for every argument when it's clear that the other side thinks differently about that statement. It's clearly not effective
